Weekend Writing Warriors entry #8

Another entry for Weekend Writing Warriors. WeWriWa is a blog site open to all authors/writers published or unpublished. Follow the simple instructions on their blog to sign up and then post a snippet of writing on your own blog to join in on the fun.

Continuing with an excerpt from my book Fiendish. The excerpt picks up in the middle of chapter 3 and I will continue til the end of the chapter.

In the previous installments, Calida and Seth have seen each other again for the first time since their initial meeting. Calida's friend Macy has invited Seth to have dinner with them, only to ditch Calida once they arrive at the restaurant. We pick up with Calida trying to figure out what to do on this impromptu date.

Part 1  Part 2  Part 3

“Eat with me. If you can drop me at the Lenox Station, I can get home from there. Then you can continue on with your day.”
I took a moment to study her. She never held my gaze for long, choosing instead to tuck imaginary strands of her hair behind her ear or to look at the blank screen of her phone held tightly in her hand.
“I rarely do things I don’t want to do, so if I didn’t want to eat with you, I wouldn’t have accepted the invitation. But if you’d rather not dine with me, then I will gladly take you wherever you want to go.”

Hope you enjoyed the snippet. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. She's so shy. And he seems like a bottom line kind of guy. Interested to see how this unfolds.

    1. She is very shy and it's made worse by the fact she really likes him but he's kinda of intimidating. The cards are stacked against her right now. More next week.

    1. yeah he doesn't beat around the bush ever and she doesn't do well in social situations with the opposite sex. Especially when it's a hot guy she likes.

  7. I like Calida. She seems like a fairly pragmatic sort of person trying to dispel the awkwardness. I liked this part, "I took a moment to study her. She never held my gaze for long, choosing instead to tuck imaginary strands of her hair behind her ear or to look at the blank screen of her phone held tightly in her hand." It says a lot about the characters and their state of mind. She's feeling nervous, obviously, and he's studying her, which means he's probably interested 8D Here's to hoping that their date ends on a good note :D I'm so glad I'm married and not dating anymore. Dating is filled with so many awkward moments XD

    1. aww glad you like her. She tries to remain level headed, but it doesn't always work out that way for her.

Studying people is what he does. He does have an interest in Calida but it's more than that for him. We will get to see how the date plays out since I'll be running this until the end of the chapter.

LOL I so agree with the being married thing! Man I hated dating.

  9. Nice snippet. I like the details about the actions she does rather than look at him. It makes me wonder if she's a bit nervous and why. Intriguing!

    1. Thanks! She is nervous because he has an intimidating presence about him. That coupled with how good looking he is makes things worse for her.

  10. Hey Meka,

It's cute that she's nervous and shy. I totally get that sensation of avoiding EYE CONTACT at all costs LOL. I like that he's being understanding by giving her an option of leaving if she wants to. But, I guarantee she wants to stay! I really enjoyed the conversation, especially the body language.

    Keep smiling,
    Yawatta

    1. Yeah she does avoid eye contact, especially since she does feel slightly overwhelmed in his presence. Seth is forever the gentleman (when he wants to be) so he does sense her unease and would like to make her feel more comfortable. He's very observant.

      thanks for stopping by.
